The grass courts are the lifeblood of Wimbledon, as well as a quintessentially English signature. The groundstaff nurture the grass for 10 months, mowing the courts every day, a total of 17 hectares (42 acres), to keep an optimum playing height of 8 mm. And, every year, they remove the surface of the worn lawns, reseed and start all over again.
